Is the course difficult?
The course is a mix of single track, double track and dirt access roads. There are some steep hills. The course can be considered challenging in parts. Here is a map.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, this is an event where it is best to leave your dog at home. The trails can be very narrow at points and for the safety of all runners, it is best not to have dogs in the races.
Are there water stations?
You are expected to be self-supported and bring everything you would need for your run. We will provide a water refill station at the start line and there will be First Aid at the start.
Are there medals?
Maybe. We are working on something. But, all winners of the races will get a sweet treat. Plus all finishers get something special. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, but we think it is pretty cool.
Are there age category awards?
We will break out results into 10 year age groups, but will only be awarding a special presentation to first overall male and female for each race.
Are the races timed?
Yes. You will have a chipped bib that will be timing you.
Can I wear a costume?
Sure. It makes things fun for everyone.
For The Jenny (4 hour looped run), will partial loops count?
No, you must complete a full lap (3K) within the 4 hour window to have it counted towards your total number of completed laps.
Will I be able to complete a full marathon distance doing The Jenny?
It is up to you. I would be overly impressed if you did that.
Will there be a lot of cross running traffic on the trails?
We can have up to 100 runners running this day. We have staggered the races a bit to reduce traffic, but you may experience some tight spots. Just remember your trail etiquette and if passing call out (e.g., “On your right!”).
What if it is raining?
This just adds to the fun. It would have to be pretty extreme weather to be canceled. We monitor the weather and would let you know if we had to cancel.
Is there an Extreme Weather Emergency Procedure?
Please refer to the Safety Procedure page of the website.
Are there ATVs on the trails?
Most of the trails (Purple Finch, Black Oak, and Sweet Fern) are free from motorized vehicles. Vehicles have access to some of the trails, such as going up to the Lookout. You may encounter a vehicle, but trail etiquette comes into play. You hear them coming and you just step to the side. Usually a friendly wave is exchanged. Easy.
Do I get my money back if I don’t run?
We are unable to offer refunds. There are lots of costs involved in running an event that are paid out before the event occurs and cannot be recouped by the organizers. You may be able to transfer your entry if you inform us within a reasonable amount of time.
How do I get there?
Be careful. If you use a GPS program to get you here, it may try to send you on the ATV trails and you will be driving through the forest. Yikes. Stick on Hwy 45 until you get to the parking lot entrance right across from Woodland Road. Google maps location is here.
What is this about a possible bypass?|
The County has been doing trail maintenance and the trail may be closed between Location # 54 and # 58. If this is the case, no worries, we will bypass that section. See the map to see how the bypass looks. Here is a map.
