Safety Procedure

We wish everyone a safe and fun event.
In order to make this happen, we have had to consider a few safety procedures.

Safety Plans

Safety and Security Operations Plan
Communication with participants will make them aware of the course conditions and instruct them to be prepared for participating in the event and being self-supported (e.g., water, nutrition, carrying a sounding device [i.e., cell phone, whistle]). The course will use County markers that will be supplemented with event markers at key junctions.  Flagging tape will also be used at key junctions. A map will be available to participants, instructing them to become familiar with the course.

Trails will be inspected before the event for any obvious hazards and obvious hazards will be addressed.

An aid station will be available at the start staging area.  Aid will consist of water and first aid supplies.

Weather will be monitored before and during the event to communicate any dangerous weather if it arises.

Emergency Action Plan with an Event Alert System
The day will be monitored before and during the event to communicate any dangers if they present themselves.  If a situation makes it unsafe to host the event, participants will be informed that the event is canceled.  During the event, if a situation continuation of the event hazardous, participants will be directed to their vehicles, the event will be stopped, and participants will be asked to leave to a safer location (i.e., home).  Runners on course will be signaled through a series of 10 whistle blasts spaced at 1 minute intervals until the course is clear.

Extreme Weather Emergency Procedure

Weather will be monitored before and during the event to communicate any dangers if they present themselves.  If weather makes it unsafe to host the event, participants will be informed that the event is canceled.  During the event, if the weather becomes hazardous, participants will be directed to their vehicles, the event will be stopped, and participants asked to leave to a safer location (i.e., home).  Runners on course will be signaled through a series of 10 whistle blasts spaced at 1 minute intervals until the course is clear.

Medical Plan
St John Ambulance or an equivalent will be present on-site to address medical needs.

Course Closure Procedures:
Participants will be tracked from the finish line.  As participants finish, they will be checked-in to ensure all participants have safely completed their race.  Participants not accounted for will be contacted to see if they left early without informing the organizers.  The course will have a sweep done to account for any missing participants if someone is not accounted for.
